Many people ask me how I came up with the idea of starting my own illustration brand in Rome, here you are.
A few years ago in Paris, looking for a painting for a friend, I discovered “The Parisianer”, an imaginary magazine with real covers inspired by “The New Yorker”.
Since then, the walls of my 25 m² Parisian space have been invaded by postcards and posters.
When I turned thirty, some friends revealed that they had looked for the Roman version to give me as a gift and had not found it. (Don't worry, I still received a beautiful designer vase).
Lavinia: «What a shame the same thing doesn't exist in Rome!»
Elena: «And do it yourself, you're an architect!»
This exchange is the only thing I remember about how this project was born. I didn't think about it too much, the first poster came instinctively, I drew it for myself. I wanted to see domes inside cups and plates.
What else can it transform? Columns into cutlery! The dome of St. Ivo into a sugar bowl and its spire into a bottle opener.
And then? The mouth of truth for the two coins of tip!
How do I show the outside of the dome? I tip the chalice onto the table!
Well, then everything must be on the classic tourist tablecloth of the restaurants in the center, in a little street of irregular cobblestones... and obviously a hole. Why not, in the hole I'll also add some ancient remains, since it's like that in Rome: the more you dig, the more you find!
